The 4-players Multitouch table is based in four interactive modules to create coherent music cooperatively. Each module consists on a sequencer, two of them perform musical tones, one produce rhythms and the fourth is used for customize samples . Furthermore the user has the posibility to upload sound libraries , control the volume, the bpm rate and the time change. When the counter in time change ends, the modules shift their position , so it ensures that all users can experiment with different sequencers in one session .
The multitouch technology is based on a camera , positioned beneath a translucent surface . When the user touches a point on the surface , its coordinates are extracted using the camera and these data can be sent in different ways depending on the application to work on. Normally is used a projector, aimed at a mirror, to show the GUI on the translucent surface.
The table with Multitouch technology for four players was developed using Community Core Vision software to capture points on the translucent surface , Pure Data to read the detected points extracted with Core VIsion and get their coordenates, Ableton Live to map the points obtained to midi notes and finally Quartz Composer to display the GUI .
The application was created by Marc Homar , Jordi Puyoles , Sergi Margalef and Oriol Corroto in the Audiovisual Systems Engineering Degree from the UPC Terrassa.
